Overview:
Good resource as a basis for maths direction and planning. Resources need to be supplemented to address class needs.
How well does it match the curriculum?
Reasonably: It’s good enough for the money, but needs some additional resources
It is good as medium term planning but short term planning is improved with teacher-generated additions.
How well does it support your school’s inclusion/diversity/equal opportunities policy?
Reasonably: There is some representation of minorities and no real stereotyping
Using a couple of multi-cultural names does not fully represent diversity. Offering situations that diverse cultures experience would improve it.
How well does it support differentiation for the full range of the classes you use it with?
Well: A large majority of resources are suitably differentiated for pupils
Teachers obviously adapt them to their needs but there are differentiation supports.
How well does it engage and motivate pupils?
Reasonably: We can’t use it too often or for too long
The programme has never been used as a stand alone, it is always supplemented with other resources.
How well supported is it by accompanying formative assessments?
Reasonably: There is some formative assessment included, but its usefulness is a bit limited
Again, supplementary resources are needed to fully support formative assessments.
How well does it support planning?
Well: It’s fairly self-contained and can be used with minimal preparation
Good as a structure to work from and add to as necessary.
How well does it support home use / independent learning?
Reasonably: It could be used at home or independently, but pupils would need some extra support or resources
Extra resources are used to supplement homework.
How would you rate it for value for money compared to similar resources?
Reasonably: It represents about the same value for money as similar resources I’ve seen.
Comparable with alternative maths resources for content.
