Review rating:
The whole class instrumental tuition part of the curriculum is obviously very difficult to cover in such a resource but would be a great benefit to teachers if that could be included.
How well does it match the curriculum?
Well: It covers the curriculum as well as we expected
Covers the main parts of the national curriculum
How well does it support your school’s inclusion/diversity/equal opportunities policy?
Well: The content is inclusive and sensitively presented
I feel all children can access this and actually allows for some of our children who are weaker in other subjects, to shine.
How well does it support differentiation for the full range of the classes you use it with?
Reasonably: Essentially there’s enough for most pupils but there isn’t enough support / extension or challenge
Generally fits well and most can access but sometimes things could be better scaffolded for the lower skilled pupils
How well does it engage and motivate pupils?
Well: Pupils generally enjoy using it and tend to welcome doing so
Pupils enjoy the music and the current up to date music choices. We do find it a little repetitive with the use of xylophones/glockenspiel
How well supported is it by accompanying formative assessments?
Reasonably: There is some formative assessment included, but its usefulness is a bit limited
I think this is still an area which our teachers struggle with
How well does it support planning?
Brilliantly: It has everything you could need and is straightforward to use with classes
Very simple for teachers to follow and no additional planning needed
How well does it support home use / independent learning?
Reasonably: It could be used at home or independently, but pupils would need some extra support or resources
We haven’t used this at home yet for children
How would you rate it for value for money compared to similar resources?
Well: It’s worth the money and effort to introduce – more so than many similar resources I’ve seen.
I think it makes music simple for teachers who sometimes feel unskilled in this area of the curriculum
