Review rating:
It is brilliant and we have seen amazing results so far. It has a few teething issues and there is a lot of organisation needed
How well does it match the curriculum?
Brilliantly: There is more content (eg support / extension activities) than we expected
It is extensive but meets the expectations for each year group
How well does it support your school’s inclusion/diversity/equal opportunities policy?
Reasonably: There is some representation of minorities and no real stereotyping
It needs better development for supporting SEN and lowest 20%
How well does it support differentiation for the full range of the classes you use it with?
Reasonably: Essentially there’s enough for most pupils but there isn’t enough support / extension or challenge
Keep up is good but still needs development to support lowest 20%. There is little to stretch most able as quite a few children can read beyond the decodable book they’ve been taught up to
How well does it engage and motivate pupils?
Brilliantly: Pupils love using and are excited when they know they are going to do so
Children and parents have responded well
How well supported is it by accompanying formative assessments?
Well: We could (or do) use it for monitoring individual pupil progress
Placement assessments are brilliant and lots of easy ways to fill gaps. The online assessment tool seems clunky and we haven’t adopted it yet.
How well does it support planning?
Brilliantly: It has everything you could need and is straightforward to use with classes
It has everything we need
How well does it support home use / independent learning?
Well: Pupils could be expected to use this at home or independently, with a minimum amount of support or additional resources
The books are good but not of the highest quality so can be easily damaged. The parents support page is useful.
How would you rate it for value for money compared to similar resources?
Well: It’s worth the money and effort to introduce – more so than many similar resources I’ve seen.
