Discovery RE overall rating:

It’s a large PDF document with ideas and suggestions. Needs adapting and I think that there are better schemes available.

How well does it match the curriculum?

Reasonably: It’s good enough for the money, but needs some additional resources

Could do with more links to online resources and videos. Suggested activities aren’t always easily achievable. E.g some ask for you to invite certain faiths into school

How well does it support your school’s inclusion/diversity/equal opportunities policy?

Reasonably: There is some representation of minorities and no real stereotyping

Much of the curriculum builds on previous years' learning. This means some big religious events and festivals missed

How well does it support differentiation for the full range of the classes you use it with?

Badly: There isn’t enough range or some the age-related expectations are misaligned

Have to adapt and differentiate yourself. It has differentiated outcomes but not activities

How well does it engage and motivate pupils?

Well: Pupils generally enjoy using it and tend to welcome doing so

Nice ideas and activities. Varied.

How well supported is it by accompanying formative assessments?

Reasonably: There is some formative assessment included, but its usefulness is a bit limited

Relies on teacher judgements.

How well does it support planning?

Reasonably: Mostly we can use it without an unreasonable amount of effort or additional resource requirement

Unlike the Hampshire/ Southampton scheme where the lessons are planned out. This scheme is more of a skeleton

How well does it support home use / independent learning?

Badly: It’s not really suitable for home use or independent learning

Needs adapting in everyday lessons let alone home learning.

How would you rate it for value for money compared to similar resources?

Badly: It really isn’t worth investing the time or money in introducing this resource at a school like mine. Having come from using another scheme I find it poor in comparison.

Would you recommend it to a colleague in a similar school to yours?

3/11
