CLPE overall rating:

As a fair comment, it is difficult to get an 'off the peg' for special needs so this could be as good as any other.

How well does it match the curriculum?

Reasonably: It’s good enough for the money, but needs some additional resources.

We are a special needs school so the materials often need additional adaptions and resources that would be helpful to see more of.

How well does it support your school’s inclusion/diversity/equal opportunities policy?

Reasonably: There is some representation of minorities and no real stereotyping

For us, more opportunities to choose text that represents special needs would be good.

How well does it support differentiation for the full range of the classes you use it with?

Reasonably: in the context of our learners for example at year 6, congnitively working at Reception age.

it can be difficult choosing text that is cognitively right matched against their development interests which can be higher than their cognitive ability.

How well does it engage and motivate pupils?

Well: Pupils generally enjoy using it and tend to welcome doing so

The ones we choose are generally able to engage learners but we  tend to supplement the text with others for our junior age learners as the text isn't necessarily of enough interest. It is very variable depending on the cohort.

How well supported is it by accompanying formative assessments?

I can't fully comment as I don't regularly use it but I am fairly sure the teachers don't use it anyway.

How well does it support planning?

Reasonably: Mostly we can use it without an unreasonable amount of effort or additional resource requirement

I think this has been slight laziness on the part of staff but as we have now changed the planning process it is more tailored to the needs of the children but this of course does require more effort.

How well does it support home use / independent learning?

I don't think it is used at all for home learning, but that isn't to say it can't be. We tend to go to a different provider for home learning

Would you recommend it to a colleague in a similar school to yours?

4/11
