Charanga overall rating:
It’s good as an off the shelf
How well does it match the curriculum?
Reasonably: It’s good enough for the money, but needs some additional resources
Doesn’t cover as many instrument elements as I would like.
How well does it support your school’s inclusion/diversity/equal opportunities policy?
Well: The content is inclusive and sensitively presented.
Children are confident to join in.
How well does it support differentiation for the full range of the classes you use it with?
Reasonably: This is still mainly teacher led. Challenge would be good.
Overall it has given teachers a huge amount of confidence to teach but also cover staff who tend to be left music as the subject to cover can pick up and lead without much planning
How well does it engage and motivate pupils?
Brilliantly: Pupils love using and are excited when they know they are going to do so
Very motivating and great songs.
How well supported is it by accompanying formative assessments?
Reasonably: There is some formative assessment included, but its usefulness is a bit limited
How well does it support planning?
Well: It’s fairly self-contained and can be used with minimal preparation - all there for you.
How well does it support home use / independent learning?
Well: Pupils could be expected to use this at home or independently, with a minimum amount of support or additional resources
Can be used at home or homework set easily if required.
How would you rate it for value for money compared to similar resources?
Well: It’s worth the money and effort to introduce – more so than many similar resources I’ve seen. Good value
Would you recommend it to a colleague in a similar school to yours?
8/11
