Good starting point but now we are looking to create our own art curriculum, which can be more adapted to our school's needs.
How well does it match the curriculum?
Reasonably: It’s good enough for the money, but needs some additional resources
Strengths - Exposes children to a wide range of artists. Videos are great for subject knowledge.Weaknesses - Difficult to see progression through a unit as lessons don't link so it does not seem to build on the previous session.
How well does it support adaptation for different groups of pupils?
Reasonably: Essentially there’s enough for most pupils but there isn’t enough support / extension or challenge. Differentiation by outcome and adult support. Top tips for low attainers would be useful.
Needs a clear aim for each unit with an 'end product'. Also stretch tasks to give clear ideas for how to extend those who are artistic.
How well does it engage and motivate pupils?
Reasonably: We can’t use it too often or for too long
They like the range of tasks. Would be more motivational if culminated in an end product that they could work towards.
How well supported is it by any included formative assessments?
Reasonably: There is some formative assessment included, but its usefulness is a bit limited
An independent task as a final assessment would be useful but I have not spent much time exploring any assessment materials so it is difficult to comment.
How well does it support planning?
Well: It’s fairly self-contained and can be used with minimal preparation
Like the videos - really useful as it can be overwhelming to read really long lesson plans. Would like a clearer idea for how to extend a task if they finish too quickly.
How would you rate it for value for money compared to similar resources?
Well: It’s worth the money and effort to introduce – more so than many similar resources I’ve seen
Perhaps some online training to up-level teachers' skills could be useful? It would be useful to adapt resources to meet the needs of the class/school too.
Would you recommend it to a colleague in a similar school to yours? 7/11
