The resource is really useful if - like me - you aren't that good at DT. It does break down the units into manageable chunks and the videos are great.
How well does it match the curriculum?
Well: It covers the curriculum as well as we expected
It does offer a progression of skills in different subject areas. We don't use all resources but just the topics that are the best fit for our interpretation of the curriculum.
How well does it support adaptation for different groups of pupils?
Reasonably: Essentially there’s enough for most pupils but there isn’t enough support / extension or challenge. DT tasks do have ideas for extra support - we haven't needed extension/challenge yet!
Some of our children with SEND found it hard to access some of the tasks. There could be modification exemplars.
How well does it engage and motivate pupils?
Well: Pupils generally enjoy using it and tend to welcome doing so
The video examples are clear and very useful. Each unit has about four of them. It could be even better if there were more - again with some modification for less able children.
How well supported is it by any included formative assessments?
Well: We could (or do) use it for monitoring individual pupil progress
There are assessment quizzes and knowledge catchers for every unit of lessons
How well does it support planning?
Well: It’s fairly self-contained and can be used with minimal preparation
I like the way it gives you a shopping list of resources up front. The downloadable resources are useful too
How would you rate it for value for money compared to similar resources?
Reasonably: It represents about the same value for money as similar resources I’ve seen
Everything is expensive now - you do get quite a lot for your money - but we don't use all the units as not every unit matched our needs. This makes it relatively more expensive for what we get. DT budget isn't great either!
