DCSF
Schoolzone takes Curriculum Online out on the road
Background
The Department for Education and Skills (now DCSF) ICT in Schools division aims to encourage teachers to use ICTto support their teaching across the curriculum.
Objectives
The DfES wanted to run a series of roadshows so that teachers could get hands-on experience of software and evaluate it for themselves. Expert advice was to be available, plus a hardcopy publication listing. The DfES also asked for feedback on the project to be quantifiable. The time scale for delivery was set at just 6 weeks.
Response
Schoolzone created a hands-on touring service, where teachers could sample 300 software titles and get help from trained evaluators. A full colour catalogue of independently evaluated titles, in subject areas, was produced for teachers to take away.
Project details
- Schoolzone set up a server carrying 300 titles, designed a web-based interface to search evaluations from multiple sources and to launch the titles. Then the service was beta-tested with teachers.
- To stage this e:port feature at the roadshows, Schoolzone set up a network of PCs and designed the exhibition stand and graphics. We recruited 26 trained teacher evaluators for the stand. A series of subject-based guides was also available to visitors, designed and produced by Schoolzone liaising with over 120 clients.
- Our marketing of the DfES events included mailshots all to secondary schools, emails to Schoolzone’s 80,000 registered users and a web-based campaign to reach the thousands of visitors at www.schoolzone.co.uk
- Feedback was gathered via online forms at the events and data analysed for a full report of findings.
Project highlights
As a result of its success, Schoolzone was asked to bring the service to The Education Show London, BETT and The Education Show NEC.
Additional print runs of the brochure were required for other DfES events.
